A check to our self-esteem.

 Self-esteem

Self-esteem is the way we feel about ourselves. It's a self-image portrayed by us about ourselves. Our opinion about ourselves critically influences every aspect of our lives. When we feel good the world seems nice, and our productivity and relationships go up. Self-esteem comes from recognising and accepting our self-worth. Accepting our self-worth makes us feel secure internally.

Self-esteem is of two types:-

1. High self-esteem:-
High self-esteem leads to a happy, gratifying, meaningful and purposeful life. unless we perceive ourselves as worthy, we can't have higher self-esteem.

Check on the points you get with each point:-

•Signs you have High self-esteem:-

• Person with the willingness to accept responsibilities.
• A person who is confident without being arrogant.
• A person with an optimistic attitude.
• A person who leads to better relationships and fulfilling lives.
• A person who is self-motivated and ambitious.
• A person who feels secure and makes others feel secure too.
• A trustworthy person.
• A dependable person.

Disclaimer- don't confuse the High self-esteem with being egoistic. It simply means I accept myself the way I am with my all pluses and minuses. It doesn't mean that I am proud of my mistakes or I don't want to change. It only means I am not perfect. Yes, I did mistakes. I accept them. I learn from them. I am not proud of my mistakes. I won't repeat them. I am at peace with myself.

2. Low self-esteem:-
People with low self-esteem are those whose driving force is fear and self-doubt. There are some signs to recognise person with low self-esteem. It is not all inclusive but is indicative.

Don't forget to deduct points:-

•They are gossipmongers.
•They constantly criticise others and get sadistic pleasure out of it.
•They're neither good leaders nor followers.
•You can't trust them.
•They compromise values to fulfill their ulterior motives.
•They are highly egoistic and arrogant. They think they know it all. Such people talk down to others.
•Every decision they make is more to satisfy their ego's than make sense.
•They feel superior when the other person feels inferior. They feel good when others feel bad.
•They are self-centred, rude, ill-mannered and selfish.
•They pretend to be what they are not. They have a dual personality.
•They show timid behaviour when they go to their boss and oppressive behaviour to their juniors.
•They don't have genuine friends because they are not genuine themselves.
•They don't know where to draw line- where decency stops and vulgarity starts. It's usual to tell jokes at social get-togethers, but with every drink that goes down the belt, the jokes get dirtier and dirtier.
•They manipulate people by making false promises for selfish reasons.
•They are inconsistent. They may be all sugar or honey today but the same people may be out to cut your throat tomorrow.
•They are generally difficult to work with and work for.
•Many times we notice people doing something wrong, knowing fully well that it is wrong. You ask them, "Why are you doing this?" Their answer is, I don't know. Everybody else is doing it, that's why I am doing it."
•They judge your self-worth by your net-worth. They forget that people make things, things don't make people.

                                                                                                                               ~Kalpana Saini

Yes, we do need information to get educated, but does it really mean who has information is educated? might be not. For eg: a phD holder may have a lot of information in their particular area but may or may not be educated. As we can see, the amount of information is doubling every year. Nowadays, information is so readily available, so it's easy to get informed. True meaning of education. "Intellectual education influences the head, and value based education influences the heart." In fact, education that doesn't train the heart can be dangerous. Nowadays, everyone are familiar with artificial intelligence, robotic technologies, assistants like Siri and Alexa. But what creates a difference is user's mindset. User's are the one who's education determines their utilisation if it's head...

Building self-esteem

How is self-esteem built? It is something that is being formed from the day we are born and goes on. It is all those feelings that we develop about ourselves, either positive or negative are reinforced in us by others. Some aspects which are affecting our self-esteem from childhood are:- 1. Upbringing :- Parents with high self-esteem inculcate confidence and high self-esteem in their children by giving them positive beliefs and values, and vice versa. Parents who participate in crooked deals, unfortunately, set bad examples for their future generations. It is less painful to learn in youth than to be ignorant as adults. Little eyes are always upon you and they're watching and learning from us all day long. 2. Environment :- The greatest gift parents can give their children is their firm roots. A positive environment makes a child grow in every aspect. Real gifts are when you give a part of yourself. Your kindness, courteous and polite behaviour. 3. Self-talk :- Self-talk is what ...
