What does it mean to be educated?

Educated?

Let's find out. Are we educated or just informed?

Sorry to say but we are living in an information era. We get a lot of information in schools and colleges. Yes, we do need information to get educated, but does it really mean who has information is educated? might be not. For eg: a phD holder may have a lot of information in their particular area but may or may not be educated. As we can see, the amount of information is doubling every year. Nowadays, information is so readily available, so it's easy to get informed.

True meaning of education.

"Intellectual education influences the head,

and value based education influences the heart."

In fact, education that doesn't train the heart can be dangerous. Nowadays, everyone are familiar with artificial intelligence, robotic technologies, assistants like Siri and Alexa. But what creates a difference is user's mindset.

User's are the one who's education determines their utilisation if it's head based or heart based. Morals and ethics creates a huge difference. If we want to build a character in our workplace, homes & society we must have a level of moral and ethical literacy. More than academic education, we need more value based education.

The one who is morally educated will move up a lot better in life or succeed than a morally bankrupt person, with excellent academic qualifications.

Let me just ask a simple question:-

What would you prefer going to the, first most qualified surgeon who lacks character. Or the second most qualified surgeon in town who has character.

It's where difference lies. In getting informed and getting morally and ethically educated.

"Educating the mind without morals creates a menace in society."

True education is training of both the head and the heart. It is better to be uneducated than ill-educated. We should compete for knowledge and wisdom, instead of grades.

Knowledge is piling up facts, wisdom is simplifying them. One could have good grades and a degree and still not learn much. People confuse education with the ability to memorize facts.

The tradegy is their are many walking encyclopedias who are living failures.

Knowledge is power. Is it?

We are often told knowledge is power. Not really. Knowledge is information. It becomes power when it is acted upon. Learning is a lot like eating. It is not how much we eat that matters, but what really matters is how much we digest.

Building self-esteem

How is self-esteem built? It is something that is being formed from the day we are born and goes on. It is all those feelings that we develop about ourselves, either positive or negative are reinforced in us by others. Some aspects which are affecting our self-esteem from childhood are:- 1. Upbringing :- Parents with high self-esteem inculcate confidence and high self-esteem in their children by giving them positive beliefs and values, and vice versa. Parents who participate in crooked deals, unfortunately, set bad examples for their future generations. It is less painful to learn in youth than to be ignorant as adults. Little eyes are always upon you and they're watching and learning from us all day long. 2. Environment :- The greatest gift parents can give their children is their firm roots. A positive environment makes a child grow in every aspect. Real gifts are when you give a part of yourself. Your kindness, courteous and polite behaviour. 3. Self-talk :- Self-talk is what ...
